Scotch College in Melbourne officially opened the Spencer Centre for Design and Technology in February 2018.
“This is a centre for innovation, where boys can discover new possibilities in the rapidly progressing fields of Design and Technology, Engineering and Mathematics,” a school spokesman said.
Learning occurs through collaboration and experimentation in both traditional skills and emerging processes.
“In state-of-the-art workshops and design studios, our boys develop skills in design, testing and refinement that are essential to every field of enterprise,” he said.
“This new building adds to the already impressive range of facilities at the 27-hectare campus, located in Hawthorn.
“Boarding at Scotch provides boys access to these outstanding facilities and in any one day a boy might go from rowing training on the Yarra River at the western perimeter of the school, or playing tennis on one of the college’s 26 courts, to playing music in the James Forbes Academy.”

Tim Byrnes is the dean of boarding.
“By boarding at Scotch, boys from rural and regional families can access world-class facilities such as these, ensuring the education they receive is on par with their city counterparts,” Mr Byrnes said.
“It provides opportunities that are seldom found elsewhere.
“Each year, Scotch College offers a number of boarding scholarships for entry to Years 7, 9 and 10, giving them the greatest opportunity to perform at their best while unearthing new interests, passions and talents.”
Scholarship applications for 2020 are open until January 29, 2019.
