A terrific feed season in the state’s southwest has delivered a new record price at Edenhope’s annual first cross wether sale, held Thursday.
Sold among a strong penning of 4500, Stephen and Natalie Deardon were rewarded with a sale top price of $168 a head in a sale that averaged $132, which according to the selling agents was $9 a head up on buoyant rates of 2017.
The Deardon market toppers were an August-shorn line, ex SA-bred Merino ewes by Border Leicester rams while the majority of the other vendor lines were more recently off-shears, being primarily October-shorn consignments.
Rodwell Edenhope, manager, David Hanel said the usual small gallery of buyers contested the sale with approximately 1000 head falling to bids offered by the processing trade, within a price range of $110-$168.
The buying gallery was only small but approximately 1000 head went the way of the processing trade.
