Despite seasonal conditions remaining less than favourable, strong bidding from interstate buyers saw a large number of Allednaw Charolais cattle move north.
The online auction drew a large gallery of buyers from across five states.
“We had good support from most areas with cattle selling into Queensland, NSW, South Australia, Tasmania and locally around Victoria,” Allednaw stud co-principal, Sam Taylor said.
Fetching the overall top price of $8500 was Lot 38 cow, Allednaw Desire J120, with an autumn polled red factor heifer calf-at-foot, purchased by Tony Farrell, Fernleigh, NSW.
The 22 out of 23 cows with autumn heifer calves, sold to an average of $4136.
The Lot 38 cow, an attractive polled red factor female displayed great length and volume, and had generated a lot of interest prior to auction, Mr Taylor said.
Of the lots offered, 23 out of 25 cows with autumn bull calves sold to an average $4565.
The top price of $7000 for Lot 23 was bought by Ross and Paula Warren, Gympie, Queensland who bid well finishing with six lots to add to their herd.
A number of buyers purchased multiple lots including Ian Douglas, Wyee, NSW, and James Hack, Kempsey, NSW with seven lots each.
Jason Salier, from Narrabri, NSW picked up three lots including the Lot 79 PTIC cow, Allednaw Carol L45, for $7500.
“Overall we were pretty happy with the result. It was a bit of an unknown going into the sale with ordinary seasonal conditions along the East Coast,” Mr Taylor.
“The better end of the catalogue sold very well while a handful of the older cows struggled to get a bid which is about what we expected.”
Allednaw have retained their heifers, however, Mr Taylor said it was difficult to see the cows go.
“We were faced with a tough decision going into next year with extreme irrigation water prices making it nonviable to irrigate our pasture in autumn. The positives from the sale is there was a good spread of buyers bidding and our genetics are now going into a number of high profile studs around the country,” he said.
