An excellent quality yarding of 3800 locally bred cattle sold to 339c/kg at the latest WVLX sale at Mortlake.
South Australia was the destination for the tops of John Sambell’s Ballangeich Partnership steers at a top of 339c/kg.
The line of 44 steers, 315kg, came out at $1070 a head purchased by Thomas Degaris and Maney, Penola, SA.
Ballangeich also forwarded 43 steers, slightly lighter at 305kg that sold for 324c/kg, or $988, to Ray White Rural, Albury.
Mr Sambell said the property had been leased so the cattle were offloaded earlier and lighter than they would normally.
He also offered a pen of older heavy steers, run under organic principles, that weighed 479kg and sold for 310c/kg or $1486/head.
WVLX associated agents president Glenn Judd, said the older steers were forwarded in excellent condition and all from the western district.
The market was generally firm across the yarding.
He said the older steers weighing between 350 and 513kg and sold 290 to 310c/lg.
Weighed weaner cattle 300-350kg for well bred cattle.
The Angus weaner calves sold mostly from 290 to 340c/kg.
The heifers ranged from 350-450kg selling from 250-271c/kg for the older cattle while weaner heifers sold from 260-280c/kg.
Mr Judd said the coloured heifers “just fell off a bit”.
A second feature draft of the sale was a large consignment of mixed sex weaners from Peter and Gerrard Ryan, Hawkesdale.
The steer portion of 127 sold in two line. The first comprised 61 steers, weaned three weeks, that weighed 352kg and made 302c/kg or $1063.
The second line of 65 weighed 310kg and sold at 312c/kg or $968.
The Ryan’s heifers sold in three pens with the heaviest, weighing 335kg selling for 278c/kg or $936 for a pen of 25.
The second draft of 51 weighed 303kg and sold at 266c/kg or $806 while 41 of the lightest weighing 279kg sold at 265c/kg or $740 a head.
Yangary Hills sold 21 heavy Angus steers, weighing 513kg, that made 300c/kg or $1539 bought Landmark Tamworth.
Other heavy steers included two pens from Bracam Holdings, including 26 weighing 429kg that made 290c/kg and a second pen of 37 weighing 449kg that made 287c/kg or $1290.
Grant Belleville, Blythwood Pastoral Co, MacArthur, sold 25 steers, 476kg, for 296c/kg and a second pen of 19 weighing 433kg for 290c/kg.
Coolana forwarded two pens of heavy steers with 21 weighing 448kg making 301c/kg and 15, 416kg, selling for 296c/kg.
Coolana also sold 15 heifers, 481kg, for 260c/kg or $1250 and a second line of 20 at 442kg for 277c/kg or $1224.
South Boorook sold 20 Black baldy steers, 363kg for 292c/kg and 26 Hereford steers, 375kg, for 278c/kg.
Daryl Clark, Rockgrove, Darlington, sold a pen of 29 Beef Shorthorn steers, 18-20 months old, weighing 552kg, for 285c/kg to Elders Korumburra.
Dixie House Partners offered two pens of Angus steers with the top 18 weighing 338kg making 300c/kg and the second draft of 25, weighing 289kg, making 290c/kg.
AW & T Johnson sold 20 Hereford steers for 283c/kg or $891 a head.
J & H Jenkinson sold two pens of Charolais steers, 388kg, for 289c/kg and 19 weighing 325kg for 285c/kg.
The Greig family’s Eulo Pastoral, Caramut, sold a pen of 15 Angus heifers, 510kg, that made 254c/kg or $1297 a head.
Angus heifers sold account Brandon Pastoral made 265c/kg for 50 heifers weighing 354kg.
The same vendor also sold two pens of black baldy heifers with 27 weighing 327kg making 266c/kg and 24 weighing 298kg selling for 269c/kg.
A pen of 11 Speckle Park heifers sold account Riches, Hawkesdale, made the top price of 374c/kg or $1405 a head.
