Victorian livestock sales had one of their greatest across the board lifts this past seven days as northern processors infiltrated the southern market scene in a request for supplies.

In greatest demand were lambs that jumped 60 to 80 cents per kilogram or $12-$20 a head in value while mutton rose by 30 cents average or $6-$8 a head bumping the respective indicators to 780-820c/kg for lambs and 470c/kg average for mutton despite a considerable lift in market numbers for each.

In the cattle yards heavy cows for the primary focus of the northern buyers. These rose in value by an average of 42c/kg dressed, 20c/kg live or about $100/head.  Young cattle and grown steers values also rose strongly despite also greater numbers of each.
