On the back of a very successful ram sale in October 2017, where we sold 80 rams to an average of $2,543 with the top price being $4750 for a horn ram from our Wallaloo Park family, we again look forward to offering a very even, well grown line-up of both horn and poll rams. These rams have been paddock run all year.
Our wools are white and bright with excellent crimp definition - a trait the Stud Park South (SPS) sheep are becoming known for.
On big uncomplicated frames, we are more than happy with our direction and in turn being profitable for the commercial grower chasing wool cut and meat attributes.
Fertility is also a major focus at SPS. More lambs on the ground mean more surplus sheep to sell and more depth in both ours and our clients breeding programs. Wether lambs that have been turned off through feedlots and to restockers, have contributed once again to the whole Merino job stacking up.
Our bloodlines are very stable with our rams based on a Wallaloo Park, Langdene cross which is proving to be very productive coming off our strong Peppin background.
Last year, a ram from Yarrawonga Merino stud was purchased to continue our horn ram breeding. He was an embryo-bred ram with his sire being WP 225, a ram we have been using for the past four years. Progeny from this ram looks promising with some available in this year’s sale.
Our horn ewes have continued to improve significantly with good productive skins becoming more abundant each year.
Moorundie Park blood Poll ewes were purchased seven years ago and two Coddington Uardry Poll rams have also been used to give us predominantly big framed ewes to breed from going forward. Poll ewes purchased from Southrose Merino stud three years ago, are also providing a solid, productive base.
Another addition to the poll flock was the ram, Kamballie 16-2, purchased privately for $25,000 at the Australian Wool and Sheep Show in Bendigo. The Kamballie stud is located at Tammin in WA.
Weighing 160 kilograms, he is a massive, uncomplicated ram carrying an extremely long stapled, white, crimpy, 20 micron wool.
Wallaloo Park 17-0292 was also purchased at the stud’s on-property sale this year for $18,000. He is a ram bred from the Wallaloo Park Real Deal family. Weighing 129kg, he is a very correct ram displaying a sirey, rich wool.
They will breed us elite wools that all sheep breeders are looking for and their massive presence and scale will contribute to extremely early maturing sheep with higher than average carcase weights.
With wool prices, store sales, lamb and mutton prices remaining at high levels, we are all looking forward to exciting times ahead producing quality stock ticking a lot of boxes.

The Stud Park South ram sale will be held on Tuesday, October 23 at 1pm. Rams will be available for private selection at the conclusion of the sale.
