*114 of 120 rams sold to $6500, av $2536
The Glenpaen Merino and Poll Merino stud, of Rod and Sue Miller, Brimpaen, held a successful 22nd annual ram sale last Friday.
Of the 120 rams offered 114 were sold achieving an average of $2532.
There were 69 horned and 51 poll rams offered with an average micron of 18.6.
There were 36 registered buyers.
Top price was for a poll ram at $6500 which sold to Rod Marshall, Pomonal.
The ram was sired by Willandra GP and measured 17.2 micron.
Volume buyers included PR Gould & Co, Lucindale, South Australia, 11 rams, Mount Glen Farms, Joel South, 11 rams and KJ EA & JP Leach, Rheola, 7 rams.
Stud principal, Rod Miller, said the average this year was similar to the 2017 result.
He said the 2017 sale saw a leap in the average and this year he offered more rams this year to try to keep the average affordable.
At last year’s sale he said they had recorded the highest number of stud lambs, meaning he had more rams to pick from for the 2018 sale.
Mr Miller said the stud’s motto was “safe enough to go south, big enough to go north”.
He pointed to the wool market and mutton prices for the demand for rams.
The stud’s Poll Merino offering was also on the rise.
Mr Miller said that everyone who had tried a Glenpaen Poll was happy with them.
“It’s not easy to breed Polls, but it’s worth it,” he said.
