Allan and Carol Phillips were the first Tasmanian woolgrowers to sign up to The Schneider Group’s Authentico integrity scheme.
The program ensures a transparent supply chain from the farm gate to the delivery of wool tops, rewarding woolgrowers that grow their product in a sustainable, environmentally friendly manner, with high attention to animal welfare.
In August, the Phillips family sold three bales through the program.
Ms Phillips said Authentico reflected what they were already doing on-farm.
“It just highlights what we’re doing already, we manage our land, and look after our stock and people,” she said.
Mr Phillips said it was beneficial to both growers and buyers.
“It’s good for us but also very good for those selling it; there’s demand for wool that comes from properties that are farmed sustainably,” he said.
He said Schneider has purchased wool from their property over the years, so they know the clip and the brand, and where the wool comes from, well.
