A slight edge in structural correctness has seen the Grand Champion Hereford female Tondara Herefords and Jordan Alexander’s Kanimbla Harmony take the Supreme Exhibit rosette from Grand Champion Bull, Grangeview Park Mascot.
Judge Richard Sullivan, a Mornington Peninsula livestock property manager, said the February 2015-drop cow, from the Urana, NSW stud, had a tremendous frame.
“We have got two magnificent representatives of the Hereford breed out here,” Mr Sullivan said.
“The cow that's standing out is a tremendous framed cow.
“You get behind her, she’s got lots of widths, she has got beautiful lines, is beautifully feminine up the front, has tremendous feet and she carries herself really well.”
Kanimbla was sired by Merawah Export, out of Kanimbla Harmony E30.
Grand Champion bull Grangeview Park Mascot, Grangeview Park Poll Herefords, Axedale, weighed 920 kilograms and had an eye muscle area of 113 square centimetres, a rump fat measurement of 14 millimetres and rib fat of nine mm.
Sired by Wagga Caesar (AI) (P) out of Grangeview Park Kilarnie (AI) (P), Mr Sullivan said the bull had width through his pins and thickness, right down the length of his body.
“They are both magnificent animals and are both going to go out and represent the breed exceptionally well,” Mr Sullivan said.
“For me, there is not much in it, but just because of her complete lines, I am going with the cow.
“I just believe her smoothness up through the front end, her lines, from over her shoulder from hip to pin, she is just a little bit more complete, in that area, than the bull.”
When choosing Kanimbla as Grand Champion female, Mr Sullivan said the cow was a very functional animal.
“She has a calf that is a bit of a crowd pleaser, who wants to get out and complicate things by showing off, but she is a beautiful cow.”
