A successful clearance of 31 from 40 lots, with a top price paid twice of $4250 head and a catalog average of $1500 made Panorama Poll Merino stud principal Frank Byrne, Borung, a happy vendor at his on-property sale on Wednesday.
Gathering prices that were slightly up on 12 months ago, Mr Byrne said his paddock-prepared catalog had lined up much better than was expected given the severity of the season.
Repeat buyers were patient for the Panorama line-up.
Ross and Lydia Jackson, Moyston purchased the two top-priced rams.
The first to make this money was a P-342 sired juvenile, May 17-drop, 20.9 microns and a comfort factor (cf) of 99.5 per cent.
The second to pull the same bid was an AI-OB44 sired youngster, also May 17-drop, 19.1 microns with a 99.4pc CF.
Mr Jackson said his purchases were well balanced, square-bodied animals with a good, even body of fleece.
“In our country (near Ararat) good structure is essential as our sheep have to stand well when it gets wet conditions and it can” he said.
Repeat and volume buyers traveled from Balranald, NSW, Prairie, Bendigo, St Arnaud, and Mysia.
Rodwells branches, Boort and Bendigo, conducted the sale.
