Judy Brookes and Duncan Hall had to make some decisions whether to sell or not with the forecast of a dry and hot summer looming.
Their property, Cooloongolook, is just outside of Yea, and has been experiencing a reasonable start to spring.
However, Judy and Duncan don’t believe the season will hold out, and they expecting a dry and hot summer.
Even though the Pakenham market had a much larger offering of 3000 cattle, Their Red Angus yearling steers stood out as the top steers of the sale.
Miliwillah and Paringa Red Angus stud bulls had been used, and no one could fault the quality of these steers.
Muscle, fat cover and condition was excellent, and this attracted very strong competition from feedlots and bullock fatteners.
Anyone targeting a grass assured program could have purchased these steers, which were grassfed and antibiotic free, but Elders agent, Dennis Linley from Pakenham was the main buyer.
Weighing in at a liveweight range of 341 to 401 kilograms, Judy and Duncan’s 92 steers sold between $1055 and $1310. Equaling liveweight prices of 309 to 344 cents per kilogram, put them at the top of the price list of yearling steers.
The steers were a credit to Judy and Duncan, and they rightfully were very proud, and happy with their results.
