*52 of 55 bulls sold to a top of $8000, av $5760
MORE THAN 40 registered buyers boosted Weeran Angus’ annual spring on-property bull sale at Byaduk, which sold 52 bulls of 55 offered to a high of $8000.
The impressive sale average of $5760 was an increase of $775 on last year’s spring sale, attributed to the support of several new clients as well as loyal return buyers.
The two year-old sale topping bull, Weeran Maestro M256, was knocked down to South Gippsland-based Malabar Farms co-principals Jenny and Paul O’Sullivan, Tarwin Lower.
The O’Sullivans chased the son of Weeran Joel J13, who recorded Angus breeding and domestic index in the top 10 per cent of the breed, at $135 and $118 respectively, due to his sound breeding.
In the top 4pc of the breed for calving ease, Ms O’Sullivan said the quality bull would compliment Malabar’s 400 head breeding herd.
He was one of three bulls purchased by the South Gippsland enterprise, which averaged $7000.
Volume buyer J E Earl Proprietary, The Hummocks, Cavendish, purchased five bulls for an average of $5500, and a top price of $7500, paid for a two-year old son of Wattletop Kiwi K15.
Another son of Wattletop Kiwi K15 topped at $7000, and was paid by volume buyers the Savin family, Corinda-Vale, Macarthur, who bought four bulls to average $6000.
Weeran Angus principal Alec Moore was thrilled with the high sale clearance, and thanked the ten new registered buyers.
Mr Moore said the sale was a terrific result for both buyers and the stud, with clients achieving value for money for the calm temperament bulls.
“The aim of the game is selling,” he said.
Tooma Station, Tooma, NSW, purchased four bulls, topping at $7000 twice, paid for high indexing bulls, and an average of $6375.
Two of the four bulls purchased by Tooma Station were by dominant stud sire, Weeran Joel J13.
Return clients Nareen Station, Nareen, took home four bulls to $7500, paid twice, av $6875.
Their run of powerful bulls, including two year-old Weeran Magician M56 and 18 month-old Weeran November Rain N112, were targeted for their calving ease estimated breeding values.
