Processors took the knife to lamb prices this week carving 60 to 80 cents a kilogram carcase weight off recent red-hot saleyard rates.
Eastern states trade lamb prices closed the week at 805c/kg while export purchases averaged 836c/kg. Lamb supply rose by 21 per cent in Victoria and 13pc across south-eastern markets to indicate that while the northern supply may have peaked, the main southern supply is gearing up.
For cattle, supply was steady to easier in Victoria and NSW while of the two SA markets monitored ramped up numbers to indicate a spring supply from that region is building.
On cattle prices, rates were firm across the board, the EYCI up 5.25 points at 490.75c/kg for the week and 40 points the past month.
