Central Shearing’s Blake Dridan, Ballarat, has been awarded a $3000 scholarship to support his career in the shearing and wool handling industry.
The Fox & Lillie Rural Scholarship is a part of the organisation’s team up with SCAA Shearer Woolhandler Training Inc, to assist in combating the shortage of shearers in the industry.
Fox & Lillie Rural managing director Jonathan Lillie said they see first-hand the issues associated with the shortage of shearers.
“We are committed to trying to improve the situation,” Mr Lillie said.
The Shearer Woolhandler Training Inc is a not-for-profit organisation providing specialised training in handling and shearing.
Mr Lillie said the organisation’s training staff are highly committed to the industry and making shearing and wool handling more professional.
SCAA Shearer Woolhandler Training Inc executive officer Chris Radcliffe said they are thrilled to see Blake Dridan receive the 2018 scholarship.
“We look forward to supporting Blake’s training pathway, and we have no doubt he will make a significant impact in the industry,” Mr Radcliffe said.
“Without the ongoing support of industry leaders such as Fox & Lillie, people such as Blake may never receive the skills training necessary for a sustainable and rewarding career.”
