Sheepvention’s champion Border Leicester ram, from Two Dot, Moyston, will be offered for sale at this year’s Hamilton multi-vendor sale, at the end of October.
Two Dot stud principal, Ross Jackson, said the ram was by a Retallack sire, out of a home-bred ewe.
“It’s the first time we have had (Retallack rams) for some time,” Mr Jackson said.
“We thought we would try going back to them again.”
The August-2017 drop ram was sired by Retallick Jackhammer F8938, out of a twin, Two Dot 410/12.
He had a birth weight of 0.3 kilograms, a weaning weight of 4.8kg, post weaning weight of 6.7kg, post-weaning fat of 0.6 millimetre and post weaning eye muscle depth of 0.4mm.
Mr Jackson said he believed judge Michael Deppeler chose the ram, because of his length, balance and very good fleece.
Mr Deppeler, Croydon Corriedales, Condah, said he had a hard time choosing between champion and reserve rams which were both junior sheep.
“They were outstanding young rams,” Mr Deppler said.
“But I gave it to a shorter wool ram which had tremendous shape, beautiful top-line and beautiful shoulder set up,” Mr Deppeler said.
“It had beautiful, lustrous, shiny wool.”

He said he was equally impressed by the ewe, from Jackson Farming.
“She was an older, big ewe, with a great frame and a good outlook,” Mr Deppeler said.
