Whether you think of yourself as a woolgrower or not, you are important in the WoolPoll process.
WoolPoll is held every three years and allows woolgrowers to decide the amount of wool levy they will pay to Australian Wool Innovation to fund research, development and marketing.
This year’s WoolPoll panel chair is Sydney Lawrie, a South Australian Merino breeder, and he told young sheep and wool industry members at the New Breed forum last week that it was important they understood the process.
“Every bale of wool that you sell or your parent’s sell or the people you work for sell, there is a levy on it, which at this stage is two per cent,” Mr Lawrie said.
He told the forum, held in conjunction with the Australian Sheep and Wool Show at Bendigo on Friday, that come September 17, all industry would have the opportunity to see what AWI had done in the past three years, and what they would do in the next three.
“It is worth understanding the process and understanding what AWI is doing for you as young people… this is your future in wool and it is a really great opportunity – even if you are not fully making the decision on what percentage you are putting in.”
