KUBOTA Australia believes protecting your people makes good business sense.
“In 2017 there were 68 farm deaths across Australia, which is 68 too many,” Kubota said.
“As a leading machinery supplier in Australia for more than 40 years, Kubota Australia is resolved to do its bit to help bring this number down.”
Kubota, engineering manager, Benjamin Binns said Farm Safety Week was an important opportunity for famers to review the safety measures they take on their farming operations.
“Farm safety is an inherent part of running any farming business. Not only is farming safe the right things to do, it is good business,” he said.
Mr Binns said Kubota was dedicated to providing safe equipment.
“We carry out extensive risk assessment processes on every piece of equipment before it reaches any Australian farm.,” he said.
“We know that we have a responsibility to our customers to provide the best equipment with the highest safety standards.
“While we do everything we can before equipment reaches a farm, we also want to make sure that farmers are taking every step they can to keep themselves and their families safe when working in and around their farm.”
Farmsafe Australia Chairman, Charles Armstrong said it was important all Australian farmers are focused, alert, and prepared when operating farming equipment.
“Having safety as a major aspect of our business will not only reduce risks to those who work and live on our farms, it will also improve our bottom line, safe farms are profitable farms,” he said.
“We want to see every farm across Australia take steps to improve safety every day.”
Kubota Australia said they encourage farmers to keep the following tips in mind to avoid accidents when operating equipment and machinery:
- Ensure everyone is familiar with the machinery that they are operating, and comply with the instructions provided with the equipment.
- Ensure you are wearing appropriate protective clothing when using farming equipment. Thongs, loose hair, and baggy clothing can lead to serious injuries.
- Fatigue can be very dangerous when operating machinery, so it’s important to take breaks from work when you need to.
- It crucial that you stay alert when using farm equipment, to ensure that you are aware of your surroundings.
- Ensure you maintain your machine in accordance with the manufacturers guidelines and recommendations. This includes keeping all guards, shields and access doors in place when operating equipment.
- You should always keep children away from farm areas while using equipment.
