The monthly store cattle sale at Powranna, Tas, on Thursday offered good numbers for this time of the year.
The sale of 1760 cattle, conducted by Elders Rural Services and Roberts Limited, like most winter yardings had its mixed lots, but there were also good lines of well-bred yearlings that gave buyers plenty of scope.
Most cattle came from the Northeast, northern Midlands and the Fingal Valley.
The best steers made $1040 to $1120/head or 250c/kg. Medium weights (330-400kg) made $890-$1050 or 270c/kg and lighter $500-$900 with averaging varying from 300 to 320c/kg.
A single pen of heifers made $1050, while medium weights made $740-$1040 and light, $450-$870/head, both averaging 230c/kg.
