A UNIQUE mixer designed for feedlots and dairy enterprises garnered interest at this year’s CRT FarmFest.
New to Australia, the Kuhn Botec 163 trailed TMR mixer is designed for high quality feed mixing.
Kuhn product specialist Tom de Greenlaw said there had been a lot of interest in mixers this year on the back of dry conditions.
“We had a pretty consistent flow of people on the site,” he said.
Mr de Greenlaw said the four auger, horizontal Botex 163 mixer wagon filled a gap in the Australian market.
“The Botec is designed for feedlots or dairy farms using about 20 to 40 per cent of hay within their ration,” he said.
“Those using a higher grain mix, or finishing ration.”
Mr de Greenlaw said the mixer on display had a capacity of 17.3 cubic metres and would run on lower power PTO’s.
“We also have other sizes, up to 28 cubic metres, for larger feedlots,” he said.
Mr de Greenlaw said a special feature of the Botec was the design of the four auger system.
“The right upper auger and right lower auger are offset,” he said.
“This minimises the dead spots in the mixer.
“Allowing the ingredients to flow around, increasing efficiency when mixing.
“Also an even mixing on discharge.”
Mr de Greenlaw said multiple options for discharge were available, including a slide tray for delivering on the ground, a chain and slap for troughs as well as a four auger conveyor.
“It will suit a wide range of operations,” he said.
“Some mixers don’t allow smaller feed mixes.
“In the Botec you can do a full mix or partial rations and maintain consistency.”
Mr de Greenlaw said the Botec was lined in stainless steel increasing the longevity of the mixer and also came with different options for augers.
“The grain auger gently rotates the mix without chopping,” he said.
“The roughage auger has scallops to do a bit of cutting.
“Then you have the roughage max auger, which you bolt knives on.”
Mr de Greenlaw said the mixer was available with a full scale system to allow precision weighing of rations.
