Central Goldfields Shire has been successful in obtaining funding worth about $25,500 from the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and the Victorian Government’s Fire Access Road Subsidy Scheme (FARSS).
The FARSS is administered by CFA and is a State Government funded subsidy scheme with $350,00 to $400,00 available each year.
CFA North-West community safety manager David Allen said projects were invited for funding that would assist brigades and councils with works.
He said the funding was available for fire access roads, water supplies and maintenance of existing fire access roads.
Projects were identified by Municipal Fire Prevention Committees and local brigades.
In the Central Goldfields shire, Gane Street in Talbot provided a secondary emergency access for the Talbot Primary School to the north.
Local residents on Browns Road, Timor, which was 2.64 kilometres in length, were concerned about maintaining road access during the fire season.
The Shire was also successful in receiving funding of $7350 to complete a Fire Access Road at Mortlocks Road in Archdale which would be completed in December this year.
Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said the two Fire Access Roads would be of huge benefit to the community.
“The Fire Access Roads on Gane Street and Browns Road will significantly improve local residents’ safety and access for emergency services,” Mr Harvey said.
