Gippsland milk processor Burra Foods has brought forward the timing of the supply incentive payments it offers to its farmers.
Chief executive Grant Crothers said Burra would also split the incentive payment.
“In recognition of the continued unfavorable seasonal conditions - and the increased cash flow pressure on many dairy farming enterprises - we have reviewed our current position and brought forward the timing of the BSI payment,” Mr Crothers said in a message to suppliers.
“Rather than one payment in August, the BSI will be paid in two instalments: the first on June 15 and the second on July 15,” Mr Crothers said.
The first instalment would cover all milk solids, supplied from July 1, 2017, to May 31, this year, while the second covered the month of June.
“We anticipate that this earlier payment of the Burra Supply Incentive (BSI) will assist you by providing improved cash flow for your business,” Mr Crothers said.
This year’s BSI payment is 6.5c/kilogram fat and 14.3c/kg protein (equivalent to 10c a kg milk solids).
It was originally to be paid on all milk solids received for the FY18 season.
The BSI payment for FY18 was initially to have been made on August 15.
