Winton is gearing up for the biggest inland music and culture festival ever held in Queensland to celebrate the re-opening of the Waltzing Matilda Centre on Friday.
More than 6000 visitors are expected to welcome the rebirth of the complex dedicated to telling the story of Australia’s national song at the Way out West Fest.
The Waltzing Matilda Centre was destroyed by fire in 2015 but the rebuilt $23 million complex is set to be the pride of regional Queensland once more.
The musical lineup of country, pop, rock and blues artists features the likes of Jessica Mauboy, The Living End, Kip Moore (USA), Lee Brice (USA), John Williamson, Sheppard, Busby Marou, Russell Morris, The Black Sorrows, The Pierce Brothers and more.
On top of that will be a country race meeting, live entertainment in many venues across the town, and markets.
“The Waltzing Matilda Centre is the lifeblood of our region and to welcome it back in such spectacular fashion is a testament to the spirit of our community,” said Winton CEO, Allan Rayment.
