*24 of 32 bulls sold to $16,000 to av, $6521
ENNERDALE Herefords’ 48th annual on-property sale last Monday, had excellent results, with records broken.
The Dundonnell-based stud achieved a record top price of $16,000 being knocked down to the prominent NSW stud Glenellerslie, Adelong. The average was also a record of $6521, this average is up from last years $4725.
The top-priced bull was found in Lot 1, Ennerdale Accomplice M241, an 21 month-old son of Ennerdale Archer out of Ennerdale Matchless, a Guilford Future daughter.
Lot 1 opened the day with lots of spirited bidding, with the first bid taken at $5000. Ray Attwell, Landmark, secured the final bid on behalf of his client Ross Smith, Glenellerslie Herefords.
M241 weighed in at 854 kilograms with a scrotal circumference of 42 centimeters, this young sire had a birth weight of +5.7, +40 for 200 day, +69 for 400 day and +101 for 600 day weight, +3.5 for eye muscle area and +0.4 for intramuscular fat.
Ross Smith inspected this bull privately while admiring his length, carcass and Herefords cosmetics while enjoying his overall data.
The second top priced bull was Lot 3, Ennerdale Foreword M235 being knocked down to JR Gill, Springbank, Casterton, for $11,000. Mr Gill also purchased Lot 18 for $6000.
While Lot 5, Ennerdale Accra M282 was purchased by Banool Pastoral, Cavendish, for $10,000. Rob Lawrence and Georgia Luckock having been buying from Ennerdale for seven years and are always happy with the progeny.
“We believe this bull is indicative of the Ennerdale program, a true reflection of their cattle,” Mr Lawrence said.
Volume buyers on the day were new client, Ian McNaughton, Skipton, purchasing lot 2 for $8000.
After being losing bidder on lot 3, Mr McNaughton went on to purchase a further two bulls to average $7666.
Cliffney Park, Mortlake, a long standing client of 56 years purchased two bulls to average $6750.
Kate Luckock, Ennerdale, said that they were very pleased with the sale result.
“[We are] thrilled to achieve our highest top price and average,” Ms Luckock said.
“The draft of bulls we presented were very pleasing so it was really nice to have such great support with a really strong start.”
