*64 of 67 bulls sold to $30,000 to av, $8063
BUYERS were out in force at Weeran Angus’ 28th annual on-property sale at Weerangourt on Tuesday, where 64 bulls cleared.
The stud recorded a top price of $30,000, to average $8063.
Packed stands filled with close to 60 registered buyers from South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales, who helped lift the average to $1116 above 2017’s average of $6947, to reach a stud record.
The top price was smashed by a further $15,000 from the 2017 sale high.
The first 24 lots averaged a high $10,896, while the 16 two year-old bulls averaged a whopping $11,687.
The top price of $30,000 was found in Lot 7, Weeran Moe M96, after much spirited bidding.
With one bidder dropping out at $20,000, another phone bidder started, helping carry this bull to $29,000.
Peter and Anna Delany, Murroa East, held the successful bid of $30,000.
This 23 month-old bull is an embryo purchased from Millah Murrah Angus, NSW, by Ascot Hallmark H147, and out of Millah Murrah Ela G46, an Innesdale Carbine C31 daughter.
Moe M96 weighed in at 1002 kilograms, the heaviest in the draft.
His estimated breeding values (EBVs) included +5.8 for birth weight, +52 for 200-day weight, +91 for 400-day weight, +132 for 600-day weight, +3.1 for eye muscle area and +1.8 for intramuscular fat.
“We had three bulls picked, but after closer inspection we decided this bull was our favorite, we class him as the best bull we have seen this autumn after attending other sales,” Michael Kerr, Kerr & Co, the father of Ms Delany said.
“He is a really well put together bull, we will collect semen to AI our cows and then he will be used to back them up,” Mrs Delany said.
Two bulls also hit the second top price of $18,000.
With Lot 3, Weeran Mars M106 being knocked down to Clunie Range Angus, Coolatai, NSW.
Mars was another full Millah Murrah embryo, sired by MM. Jupiter J194, and out of one of MM’s best family lines, MM Flower J44.
Dick Whale was on hand to purchase this sire on behalf of Clunie Range.
“This is just the type of bull Clunie Range is searching for,” Mr Whale said.
“He is a moderate framed bull, with lots of body capacity and meat which will suit their Queensland clients.”
The other bull being Lot 5, Weeran Mackinnon M66, who was knocked down to Hurley Family Angus, Dargo.
Mackinnon was also another full MM embryo, a MM Emperor H125 son out of MM Abigail G2.
Weeran co-principal Alec Moore was absolutely thrilled with the day’s outcome.
“You just do your best and hope that people notice, so today was just a blinder!” Mr Moore said.
“We have been in the job for about 30 years, but we have never had a strong contingent of HBR bulls, which we are addressing, today was our strongest line of HBR bulls and the prices have reflected that, with the APR bulls complimenting them.
“It is a very proud moment that such a respected stud like Clunie Range has purchased here today.
“The embryo program we did with Millah Murrah has been fabulous, as you saw we had some great sons with wonderful females also in the herd.
“We have retained one Jupiter J194 son, so it will be interested to see how he develops.”
DLS auctioneer Brian Leslie said: “New bloodlines brought new buyers to the sale which helped with the extremely strong buying with the prices being very solid the whole way through.”
