FEEDLOT and meat buyers and re-stockers from South Gippsland and King Island had a day out on a yarding of 2350 mostly well bred and prepared cattle at Bairnsdale store sale recently.
Feature drafts included Neville and Judith Beasley’s Angus now under the management of son Shaun. Shaun and Maria Beasley prepared the 220 Angus steers, March-April-2017-drop, Yancowinna and Ireland bloodlines.
Top price was $1260 – weighing an average 388kg - and the total draft averaged $1102.
Another feature draft was the 60 EU-accredited nine month old weaned Hereford steers, Bowmont and Nunniong bloodlines, offered by the Geehmans. Ms Geehman said they decided to sell now rather than hold on for the Mountain Calf Sales in March.
The draft returned a top of $1200 – average 326kg – and averaged $1073.
Among the heavy steers, Kevin and Tammy Woodgate, Buchan, sold weaned and unweighed Hereford steers, $1470.
P Adams, Lakes Entrance, sold weaned Angus steers, 515kg, $1430.
A Harvey, Mt Taylor, sold Angus steers, 496kg, to $1360.
Webb & Richardson, Club Terrace, sent in Mawarra-bloodline Hereford steers that returned a top of $1350 for a single, 480kg; the bulk sold at $1260, averaging 449kg.
D Garrett, Clifton Creek, sold weaned Hereford steers, 423kg, at $1270.
Brothers Barry and Geoff Cameron, trading as JH&AM Cameron, Buchan South, forwarded 50 Innesdale-bloodline 16mo Angus steers, that sold to $1180, averaging 376kg.
Among the female cattle, Angus heifers, vendor B Longin, Briagolong, sold at $1120.
Richardson Farms, Orbost, sold Woonallee-bloodline Black Baldy and Angus heifers at $800 and a pen of Charolais heifers at $760.
Peter Martin & Jan Stevens, Wangara Park, Bengworden, sold Angus heifers, 311kg, for $800.
Peter & Robyn Sandy, Buchan, sold weaned Angus heifers to $800.
J&N McKenna, Glenaladale, sold Karoonda- and Newcomen-bloodline Hereford heifers, weaned, to $800.
Angus heifers pregnancy-tested-in-calf to a Welcome Swallow Angus bull, to calve early February, vendor T&A Whelan, Lake Tyers, sold at $1650.
In a small offering of cows and calves, Angus-cross heifers with grown calves, and depastured to an Angus bull, returned $1990 for Chris Dungey, Bairnsdale.
