Wesley College’s new, state-of-the-art boarding facility offers a contemporary model of Learning in Residence for senior school students in Years 10 to 12.
Students come from rural and regional Australia, metropolitan Melbourne and international locations.
Life at the boarding facility comprises a schedule of educational programs complemented by co-curricular activities, all fully integrated with the senior school at the Glen Waverley campus.
“Students in residence have access to the vast array of co-curricular activities available at Wesley,” said Wesley College principal Helen Drennen.
Activities include sport, music and drama, which cater for all interests and needs.
“The new facilities and curriculum are not only for the residents themselves, but for all senior school students,” Dr Drennen said.
“Every part of the program is integrated within the senior school, so there is a seamless transition of support for all students.
“There are no divisions between day and residential students, and every member of staff is a point of contact for every student.”
The Learning in Residence program recognises learning is a continuous process that doesn’t stop with the end of the school day at 3.30pm.
There is a strong focus on the development of each individual student, , Dr Drennen said.
Academic, employment, extension and health and well-being programs are run to support students’ personal growth.
The Learning in Residence centre is a collection of eight modern, architect-designed houses arranged around a landscaped central garden courtyard.
Each house has eight twin-share student bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and mentor living quarters.
The communal dining room, which comfortably seats up to 240 people, is open to day and boarding students. Enrolments are now open for full-time and weekly boarding options, both of which are well-suited to families in rural and regional areas.
Learning in Residence scholarships are available for students from rural and regional Australia in Years 10 and 11.
