Moving from the dusty red centre of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory to live within a stone’s throw of the Great Southern Ocean at Mount Richmond, near Portland, was a sea-change of monumental proportions for lower southwest cattle breeders, Kevin and Julie Wyatt.

The couple made the change from driving road trains and school teaching to breeding cattle some 20 years ago and this year they will again present during the Hamilton weaner series a quality draft of Angus weaners that are chocked full of Banquet and Pathfinder-bloodlines.

They have never wanted for a mouthful of tucker in their lives, in fact, they eaten lucerne every day of their life.

Proud of their product, Mrs Wyatt said they were chuffed earlier this year when their Angus heifers, as nine month-old weaners, topped Hamilton’s annual weaner series with a stunning price of $1600 a head or 445c/kg.

“Someone has obviously liked them as much as we did,” she said. “Our calves are born and raised within one kilometre of the ocean.

The Wyatt’s March//April-drop steer calves will be offered in the Tuesday, January 10, Elders and Landmark All-breeds steer sale while their heifer draft will feature in the Elders/Landmark All-breeds heifer sale on Thursday, January 19.

These are very quiet, well-handled cattle that will steam ahead on a quality pasture.
