A search for the best genetics available has always been a priority for Athlone South principals, Roland and Susan Cameron, and more recently their son, Andrew.
The Penshurst Angus breeders began their herd with a foundation of Te Mania and Lawsons bloodlines before bringing Weeran-blood into the mix.
They said farming their basalt plains country, with its volcanic stony rises, can be tricky. But with good fertilizer and pasture advice from their agronomist friend of 25 years, Bill Feely, the results returned by their herd have been most satisfying.
Also the advice they received from their late stock agent friend, Terry McMeel, has prompted them to market the Athlone South weaners with Terry’s son, Michael McMeel at JM Ellis & Co.
