BOORANA MERINOS
*Total Clearance of 68 rams to $3500 to av $1864
IT WAS a strong day for Boorana Merinos at Woorndoo last Wednesday with a total clearance of all 68 lots to achieve an impressive average of $1864.
This year Will Lynch offered a further four rams from last year, however sold a further 10 rams to increase the average by nearly $450.
This year’s top price ram was found in Lot 8, tag 158. An August/September drop ram sired by Leahcim 699, who was purchased for $17,000 in 2015. This ram has fleece measurements of 17.6 micron, 2.9 standard deviation, 16.5 co-efficient of variation and a comfort factor of 99.7. with the bidding war being won by Peter, John and Annie Tischler, Edenhope, purchasing him for $3500, saying that “He is the best ram in the shed”.
“We find that this ram will be a good wool cutter, he is a good doing sheep with a great structured body. He has great free flowing wool, which is what we need in our high rainfall environment,” Mr Tischler said.
The Tischler Family purchased 11 rams last year while purchasing a further six rams this year to average $2283. “We come back year after year because the Boorana sheep are good doers with great fertility rates. We have increasing our lambs produced, with this year weaning 110pc of lambs. They are non mulesed sheep that have clean and plain backsides. Any farmer hates to mules if they can avoid it.”
The second top priced ram, Lot 31, was knocked down to repeat client, John Coutts, Khandalla Pty Ltd, for $3400.
“We think this ram is a good all round ram which will fit the job we require him to do. We just couldn’t fault him.” Mr Coutts said. Khandalla purchased a total of five rams to average $2860.
There was good volume buying support on the day with Kelvin Shelly, AWN, purchasing six rams on behalf of his Geelong client.
“The rams are really good and productive with extra length and extra size. This results in extra wool which is a no brainer. The rams here are improving out of sight due to the new bloodlines purchased.”
Patrick & Bronnie Fenton, Vasey Farms, also purchased six rams to an average of $2950. This included two of the third top priced rams. “We bought rams here last year and we have found that they stand up well in our conditions, with good foot structure. We believe we have once again purchased an even line of rams.” Mr Fenton said.
Dale Bruns, AWN, Hamilton, said it would have to be the best line up of rams that Boorana had put forward and bred. “That is a testament to buying top quality genetics from renowned studs,” he said. “Buying to a type of ram with a long staple, free growing, fertile rams is really starting to show through. The evenness of type of rams was outstanding, which makes it easier to put together a line of rams.”
“I am ecstatic with this sale result, with five new clients buying along with many old clients returning,” Boorana’s Will Lynch said.
