GLENORE

HIGH lamb prices have pushed up the clearance rate and average, at this year’s Glenore Poll Dorsets, Carisbrook, sale, according to stud principal Peter Cain.
Mr Cain said he was very pleased with what he said was an “amazing result. We weren’t expecting that, it was amazing to achieve such a high level,” Mr Cain said.
“Everyone was impressed with the line up of the rams, right through.”

Last year, Glenore sold 72 of its 88 rams, to $1750, averaging $915.
Mr Cain said the majority of buyers had been with the stud the whole time Glenore had been breeding Poll Dorsets. The top priced ram, Lot 5, was sold to Cypress Park, Windermere, for $2500.
Sired by Glenore 258/15, Mr Cain said the one and a half year old ram had Stockscan figures of an eye muscle width of 97millimetres, a depth of 49mm, fat of seven mm and eye muscle area (EMA) of 36.60 square centimetres.
Mr Gill said some newcomers left empty handed, as regular clients had outbid them.
“The regular buyers were prepared to spend a bit more, this year.” He said clients had told him they had been receiving prices of between $150 and $195 for their sucker lambs.
“They are looking for a moderate frame, soft doing Dorset, with a very well balanced, good structure.”
Cypress Park principal Ashley Smith said it was the only ram he bought, although he had been using Glenore bloodlines “on and off” for the past five years. “Overall, I was looking for confirmation, muscle and clean points,” Mr Smith said.
“We have used that bloodline before and it’s been successful.”
Rodwells Nick Byrne said the sale was an indication of the strength of the industry. “A lot of the rams went south of the Divide, buyers from Ballarat were very active and quite a few went up north of Shepparton,” Mr Byrne said. “There was a little bit of stud interest there as well, which is always good to get.”
Rodwells and HF Richardson conducted the sale.
