TACKLING blowfly strike is an ongoing challenge for sheep farmers across Australia, demanding valuable time and critical planning to ensure protection and peace of mind throughout the season.
CLiK Extra is the latest ready-to-use formulation created by Elanco that sets a new benchmark as the first-ever product to protect against body, breech and poll strike for up to 29 weeks.
Elanco Brand Manager for sheep, Dr Kathryn Humphries, said this unique formulation contains 30 per cent more dicyclanil than CLiK Spray-On.
“CLiK Extra is an extra strong formulation of CLiK that provides extra long protection against flystrike,” Dr Humphries said.
“Australian sheep and wool producers have relied on CLiK Spray-On to provide season-long protection against blowfly strike for nearly 20 years.
“CLiK Extra sets a higher benchmark by protecting sheep from flystrike for up to 29 weeks in a single application. That’s up to five weeks longer than CLiK.
“CLiK Extra gives you extra peace of mind that your sheep have the longest protection available against flystrike, particularly with unpredictable fly seasons.”
Dicyclanil is an extremely potent insect growth regulator that interrupts the lifecycle of blowflies.
It prevents emerging larvae from moulting into damaging second stage maggots, thereby preventing flystrike.

Dr Humphries said CLiK Extra is ideal for strategic application early in the season and can be applied from four weeks after shearing.
“Australian research confirms early season treatment can reduce the build-up of the blowfly population and reduce the risk of blowfly strike later in the season.”
CLiK Extra is applied to the breech area using a two-band application technique for sheep more than 30 kilograms liveweight.
“This improves coverage and protection against breech strike, the most common site of blowfly strike in typical years,” she said.
“CLiK Extra also protects mulesing and marking wounds against flystrike during the wound healing process.”
Dr Humphries said CLiK Extra has an important role to play in helping to protect dicyclanil against the development of resistance.
“CLiK Extra will help reduce selection pressure for resistance where it remains above the minimum effective concentration throughout the entire season and until flies are no longer active.
“This will also reduce the need for repeat treatments within the same fly season.”
