CLONCURRY resident Ronald Bird is revealed to be the LNP candidate for Traeger in the next state election.
Mr Bird is not a stranger to an election campaign. He ran against Doomadgee man Clarence Walden and lost against Tony McGrady in the 1995 election. Mr Bird had then run for the National Party.
Mr Bird confirmed to The North West Star that he was running against KAP candidate Rob Katter and ALP candidate Danielle Slade.
“I am keen to see a change and better representation for the constituents. It is a bigger area,” Mr Bird said, referring to the boundary change from Mount Isa to Traeger.
While the new electorate is smaller in size and subtracts the southern area such as Birdsville – it also absorbs Charters Towers.
“I want to make Mount Isa a more livable town. There’s plenty of big mining to be done. I have plenty of ideas to put forward to make it more livable.”
Mr Bird would supply more details on his plans within a few days. He was still recovering from a cold after attending the Birdsville Races recently.
He refers to himself as “a refugee of Mount Isa” having had run a small farming business which used the town’s sewage. Mr Bird ran this business from 1980 to 1992.
