Gates officially open for the Ekka today and spectators will be treated to plenty of cattle action.
Getting up close with these animals is one of the Ekka’s big attractions, particularly for city-based show goers who don’t have a direct link with the bush, let alone the beef game.
Meat and Livestock Australia’s Lisa Sharp said it was very early days for their latest campaign, The Greatest Meat on Earth, which is aimed at reminding consumers how great beef can be.
“The vibe, and certainly the feedback, has been very positive,” she said.

The Queensland ALPA young auctioneers final kicks off at 8.45am and QCL will be live streaming the competition.
Stud cattle judging is on again in the main arena, with the Champion of Champions parade and judging taking place in the mid-afternoon.
