GRAND champion medium wool Merino ram was awarded to the Harding family’s Glendonald entry from Nhill.
Judge Cam Munro, Egelabra Merino stud, Warren, NSW, was impressed by the ram’s top-line, wool density and wool cut. Its wool measured 20M, 3.4 SD, 17.0 CV and 99.5 CF
“What a magnificent animal,” Mr Munro said.
“Its structure, the way it stands, its sire potential, and it’s a real bale-filler.”
Glendonald principal Robert Harding said the ram was by Glendonald 2.14, which had done well for the stud. He said he would likely retain the winning ram in the stud as it reflected his breeding goals of big-framed good-doers and with lots of good wool. About the WA stud Darijon’s reserve champion ram, Mr Munro said it had productivity, balance at the front, good spring of rib and plenty of bulk.
Tony and Mark Brooks, East Bungaree, Hallett, SA, were thrilled to win their first tri-coloured ribbon in their six years exhibiting at Bendigo, winning grand champion medium wool ewe of the show. The 19.2M, two-tooth was an eye-appealing daughter of Collinsville Regal 271, which East Bungaree bought privately for $20,000 at the 2014 AS&WS.
Medium wool judge Wes Daniell, White River stud, Minnipa, described the ewe as outstanding. “It is well covered down the front and back legs with very good, long-stapled, medium wool,” he said. Reserve was awarded to Terrick West, Prairie.
