A MAN has been charged after an armed robbery at Abermain Bowling Club on Monday night.
A female employee of the club was allegedly tied up with duct tape before a safe was accessed and emptied.
Police said on Wednesday they had arrested a 35-year-old after stopping a vehicle on Victory Parade in Jesmond.
He was later charged with armed robbery, damage property by fire, larceny and drive while disqualified.
Police said the larceny charge relates to a stealing incident at a hardware store at Taylors Beach on June 11.
The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.
Police investigations continue.
