Swelling from an advertised 3000 head, Wodonga’s Corcoran Parker, Elders and Landmark, yarded 4478 cattle last Thursday.
Around 3000 of these were steers, and feedlot buyers had little opportunity to purchase, as most of the steers weighed from 170-320 kilograms liveweight.
Several large lines of steers, heifers and other female cattle, give the best overview of a very strong market throughout. Many of the cattle were in plain condition.
Yearling steers were few and far between, which created strong demand. A couple of steers sold to the top price of $1640 with most making from $1385-$1445.
The few pens of heavier steers, 340-370kgs, were purchased for grain feeding from $1330-$1465. TLK Lashbrook, Bungil Station, Granya, sold 23 Angus steers, 10-11 months, for $1445, or 418c/kg lwt.
The Shae Family, Barfold Beef, Barfold, sold the pick of the Angus steers, selling 158 head from $1000-$1330, all well over 420c/kg lwt.
Many of the steers penned may normally have been sold in early spring. However, being of lighter weight, and in store condition, the current prices have drawn them in.
Competition from Narrabri, Coonamble, Dubbo and further south to the border, South Australia, and many local districts, were all chasing these younger steers. this created some of the best prices seen in recent times.
Abbotts Past Co, Avenel, sold 102 Angus steers, 238-301kgs, from $1040-$1205. Fairfiled Park Past, Greta South, sold 174 Angus steers, from $1060-$1135.
At the end of the steers, Upper Wantagong, Holbrook, sold 93 young Shorthorn steers in poor condition. these sold exceptionally well, making from $890-$970.
Gemstar, Deniliquin, sold yearling Angus heifers from $1290-$1435, topping the heifer sale.
However, most of the heifers were equally as young, small, and in store condition, or not weaned and in good condition.
The Shae Family sold 79 weaned Angus heifers from $920-$1090, or equaling 390-413c/kg lwt. Most of the heifers sold between $900&$1220.
Ryder Past Co, sold 116 Hereford heifers from $915-$1050. They also sold 35 Red Angus-Poll Hereford females, PTIC to Wirruna Poll Herefrod bulls. These heifers, and 2nd&3rd calvers sold from $2000-$2180.
Werai Station, Deniliquin, offered 83 PTIC Angus cows, selling from $1480-$1790.
Heading the sale was a selection of cows and calves, which were mostly in plain condition with young calves. Royal Tree Estate, Wymah, sold 28 cows and calves from $1400-$1680, and 73 PTIC cows from $1180-$1520.
L McCrystal, Yackandandah, sold the highest price outfits for $2450&$2500.
This was one hell of a sale.
