Pine Park, Westbury, Tasmania, recorded a higher top price and average, for its annual sale of Angus, Red Angus and Charolais bulls.
The sale topper, Pine Park Black Chisum L43 was sired by USA15511451 S Chisum 6175, out of TWCG12 Woodbourn Gladys G12. He was bought by Richard Bowden, Cluny, Bothwell, in Tasmania’s central highlands for $9000.
Stud principal Heath Dobson said he was very pleased with the sale, which attracted four new clients.
“The average was up about $1500 on last year’s sale, which is a similar story to most seedstock sales this year,” Mr Dobson said. “We were very grateful of our repeat buyers who have confidence in our bull breeding programs.”
Black Chisum had Angus Australia Breedplan figures of a birth weight +5.1kg, 200 day weight +53kg, 400 day weight, +91kg and 600 day weight, +116kg.
The August, 2015 drop bull had a scrotal circumference of +2.9 and recorded an eye muscle area (EMA) of +5.3 square centimetres, a rib fat of +1millimetre, rump fat of +1mm and intramuscular fat of +0.1per cent. All bulls, bar one, stayed in Tasmania, with most going to the north east and north west, with a couple being taken over to King Island.
“This is the first year of breeding from a strong AI program and the results really showed,” Mr Dobson said. Buyers were positive about the muscling and strong growth figures, displayed by the animals on offer.
The top Charolais bull, Pine Park Bravo D213 (P) sired by Paringa Rio Bravo D213E (TOL D213E) (P), out of Pine Park Nanettte (PX G7E) (P) sold to Weymouth Farms for $7,000. Mr Dobson said the September, 2015 drop bull was in the top one per cent for fat and marbling, for the Charolais breed.
