On the eve of 26th annual Newmarket Saleyards Reunion this Saturday, it’s sad to learn the event organiser of recent years, John Shrimpton, has passed away following a prolonged battle with cancer.
A career drover who began work at the Newmarket yards at the age 15 years, Mr Shrimpton took over the running of recent reunions following the death of his predecessor, Joe Raymer.
Mr Shrimpton’s son, Kevin Shrimpton said the Shrimpton family has remained committed to this year’s Stock & Land-supported reunion despite the loss of their father on Australia Day.
Mr Shrimpton was highly regarded among his peers, picking, drafting and delivering stock for Dalgety, Clive Brothers Transport and Smorgan Abattoirs.
