Innovation underpins the success of Australian Fresh Leaf Herbs, which produces up to 180,000 units of product per week. Its co-founder and executive director Jan Vydra shared his experiences in research and development, problem solving and growth, at the Young Agribusiness Professionals (YAPs) Metro Muster, in Richmond, last week.
He and business partner William Pham introduced an innovate production and delivery system, which Mr Vydra said focused on consistent, high quality supply.
Mr Vydra got a Nuffield scholarship to study innovative ways to boost yields and sustainability of fresh herb and salad leaf production. He travelled to Israel, the US and Japan to investigate urban agriculture and methods to grow more on less land.
The business has also started a graduate program.
