Prices were solid on recent sales for first-cross ewes at Corowa NSW last Friday.
Clynton Rixon, Corcoran Parker, said the 10,000-head yarding included “magnificent” 2016 drop first-cross ewe lambs that topped at $256 twice. Major Ridge, Inglebar, Mulwala NSW, had vendor-bred, first-cross Border Leicester-Merino (BLM) ewe lambs, April/May ’16 drop, by Womboota Super Borders, November shorn, that reached the category high, as did J&E Hegeny, Brocklesby NSW.
G&L Lewis’s draft of BLM ewe lambs, March/April ’16 drop, ex Egelabra blood ewes by Gleneith Super Border, October shorn, sold for $254.
DB&RA Munro, Kona, Daysdale NSW, had 152 BLM ewe lambs, April/May ’16 drop, October shorn, ex Borambil blood ewes by Rettalack blood BL rams, vendor bred, that made $240.
Buyers from Leongatha operated on most of the first-cross ewe lamb pens. Mr Rixon said there was some local restocker interest. He commended vendors for presenting the sheep in very forward condition.
Steve Gratham, Elders, said the Merino job was “a bit tough”, with some people kept away by the heat and prices back on recent sales. “While there were three or four people bidding on each pen, they could’ve made another $20 to $25.”
NB Hogan & SJ Scott, Woodend Park, Daysdale, NSW, had a large draft that topped at $214 for their April/May ’15 drop, August shorn, Gunbar Station blood and bred, SIL to White Suffolk (WS) rams. Their June/July ’15 drop, October shorn, Woodyarrup blood ewes, SIL to WS rams made $210, as did another run of their Merinos.
SC&EJ Mason, Gundabooka, Everton, sold Merino ewes, April/May ’12 and ’13 drop, August shorn, Bundaleer blood, Mia Mia bred, depastured to Poll Dorset and WS rams, for $146.
