Prices were hot and buyers aplenty at the annual Northern Victoria Livestock Exchange (NVLX) young cattle sales today.
There were some disappointed losing bidders hoping to restock with both steers and heifers with prices reaching to more than $4.30 per kg ($1300 per head) for seven-month-old weaners.
Excited about their purchase of 123 heifers to establish their own herd, are Georgie, 15; Richie, 13, and Tom, 11, Tooth from “Willowvale”, near Albury.
They bought one pen of 37 9-10 month heifers from A. I. and A. M. Bourchier, ‘Burrengong”, Urana with an average weight of 320 kg, for $1160 per head.
“They will be joined later this year to Wagyu bulls as the calving is easier for them,” Tom Tooth said.
Our Wagyu bulls come from a stud near Ballarat in Victoria from which Dad has been buying for a while”.
