THERE were a lot of happy wether sellers at the Jamestown, South Australia, sheep market last Thursday.
The top price for wethers was $110.50, for 137 Jaburee blds from RJ&AJ Bury, Melrose, SA, and also 137 Bradfield-blds from LG,SL,HW&HA Jacka, Mannanarie, SA.
Koomooloo Station owner, Hamish Dunn, via Burra, sold 347 wethers, Mulloorie bld, at $102 to Wardle Co Maitland, along with 243 at $86 to Spence Dix & Co.
Ellery Props, Orroroo, SA, sold 399 Moorundie Park-bld wethers for $106.50.
Secondary wethers lifted $8 to $10 to make $75-$80.
Landmark Jamestown agent Shannon Jaeschke said it was a strong sale overall, with the older breeding ewes selling particularly well.
“Processors pushed restockers along on the lambs,” he said.
Elders Jamestown livestock agent Jack Coleman said processors Thomas Foods International, Midfield and Woodwards were all in attendance, with Midfields the strongest bidder.
Crossbred lambs sold to strong demand. Woolly lambs lifted $5-$8 and ranged from $102-$119.
Making the top price for woolly crossbred lambs were Smith Partners Belton, Carrieton, with 122 Anna Villa-blds at $119. The vendor’s seconds made $105 and the thirds $100.50.
Yadlamalka Station, via Port Augusta, sold 70 woolly crossbred lambs, North Ashrose-bld, at $116.
Wilton Land Trust, Jamestown, sold 264 September-shorn White Suffolk/Dohne lambs at $114.
Young ewes sold to $180, but most sales were between $150-$175.
GM Wilson & JJ Longmire, Willlway, made the top price for 1.5-year-olds, for 113 Glenville-blds.
Secondary types made $125-$135.
Breeding ewes sold to strong demand.
AJ&R Francis & Sons, Appila, sold 143 Gm Hill-bld, 3.5-4.5yo ewes for $180.
Wattle Park Props, Melrose, sold 243 Moorundie Park-blds, 5.5yo, for $164.
