WODONGA store cattle sale last Thursday drew a 2790 head (and 248 progeny) yarding of quality cattle.
According to Mark Breen, Landmark, it was a “very, very good sale”.
Mr Breen said that was despite some of their regular buyers not attending, but he said that gave other people an opportunity to buy cattle.
Many of the cattle were sold to local restockers but there were also some sent further afield.
Matt Tinkler, Elders, said cows and calves sold well reflecting increased confidence. Sale highlights included Angus cows and calves consigned by MA&JT Scott, Staghorn Flat. The 26 units made $2370.
J&B Harriett, Holbrook, NSW, had a feature line of cows and calves. Their 109 cows, mixed breeding, av 550kg and each had a CAF. The draft averaged $1934.
Woolamia Pastoral Co. sold 47 Angus cows and calves. The Western Victoria bred cows with calves by Newgrove Angus bulls, topped at $2200 for a pen of 19 units, and the draft averaged $2121.
Moonbah Pastoral Co. consigned pregnancy-tested in-calf heifers. These well-bred and good condition Angus heifers made to $1920 for the tops and the next lot made $1740.
Mr Tinkler said feeder cattle eased a little, making prices equivalent to 350-360c/kg lwt. Weaner cattle made 360-400c/kg and the light end made 400-440c/kg or more.
“It was very, very buoyant in the lighter cattle, but there weren’t many lighter cattle as most were 300kg-plus,” Mr Tinkler said.
A number of large drafts were consigned.
DKF Heywood & Sons, Glenlock, Everton, consigned a feature draft of 11-13 month-old Angus cattle, Jarobee, Witherswood and Ireland Angus bloodlines that had been on agistment in the Riverina for three months.
Their 409 steers topped at $1450 and the 87 heifers sold to a top of $1290.
Scott’s Angus, Glen Elgin, Henty NSW, sold 193 13-14 month-old Angus steers, for an average of $1513. Mr Breen said most weighed 415-451kg.
DS&MA Turner, Warrawee, Invanhoe, NSW, sold 130 Angus steers, Moogenilla blood, 10-12 months-old to $1600. Their 22 heifers topped at $1110.
Tweed Pastoral, Deniliquin, NSW, had 96 steers that were about 80pc Angus and 20pc bos indicus blood.
These black cattle weighed about 324-350kg and topped at $1300, av $1266 so $4/kg or more
Doug O’Brien, Mansfield, sold six Angus steers, 486kg, for $1550. AI&AM Bourchier sold 21 Angus steers, 364kg, for $1390. MW Jarvis’ 11 Angus-cross steers, 335kg, made $1295.
Beit El, Mansfield, sold 21 Angus steers, 308kg, for $1290. P&L Olver sold 23 Simmental-cross steers for $1310.
Other heifer sales included Warrawee Pastoral’s 56 Angus heifers – the top 27, 216kg, made $1010, and 16 at 187.5kg made $970. A local buyer bought them and they made the equivalent of 468 and 517c/kg.
Gove Pastoral sold 12 Charolais heifers, 332kg, for $1170. Barrajo’s 29 EU-accredited Angus heifers, 284kg, made $1045.
