Selling agents were more than happy with the results of the second of Ballarat's annual grown steer and weaner sales, held on Friday, given the difficult conditions being experienced in the cattle industry at the moment.
The convenor of the sale, Landmark, said it was fortunate not to have conducted this sale two weeks ago.
"If we had I believe we would have received $50-$60 a head less across all grades of cattle," auctioneer Xavier Shanahan said.
"Rain in NSW and a slightly improved prime market certainly help."
However, as it was the market was generally off the pace of the first of Ballarat's annual sales as mostly grown steer sales made 150-170-c/kg (live), while the majority of the heavier weaners fetched 170-175c/kg.
Heifers sales were strong, making 155-170c/kg for all weights.
