A PORTLAND district dairy farmer was killed on Monday afternoon in a tractor accident.
The 45-year-old was dead when ambulance officers and police arrived at the Gorae West property just before 5pm.
A police media liasion spokeswoman said it was understood he was found trapped underneath the tractor at the farm which is on the Portland-Nelson Road.
WorkSafe officers have taken charge of the investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
It was a tragic lead-in to WorkSafe Week which runs from October 26-30.
Last August a 40-year-old man died in a tractor acccident on Portland's outskirts when a large hay bale fell from hydraulic forks and crushed him in the seat.
He was found dead on the McNeillys Road paddock by family members.
