FARMERS, irrigators and community members at Boort last week called for the reinstatement of the Pyramid Boort Water Services Committee.
VFF President Andrew Broad, who chaired the meeting, has since written to the Chairman of Goulburn Murray Water (GMW) Stephen Mills conveying the outcomes of the meeting and supporting the reinstatement of the Committee.
“Over 250 irrigators and community members from across Northern Victoria joined with me on Thursday night to express considerable anger with the decision by GMW to stand down the Pyramid Hill Boort Water Services Committee,” Mr Broad said.
“The Committee is a democratically elected group. As well as being opposed to the stand down, the VFF has had considerable concerns with the lack of natural justice applied before any action was taken.”
“It is difficult to understand how John Nelson, a Committee Chair of 25 years, has been stood down without warning because GMW deemed his committee ‘unable to fulfil its obligation to irrigators in the region’. It is my understanding that until being stood down the Committee served the Pyramid Hill Boort irrigation community to the satisfaction of the district.”
