THE inaugural feature Hereford sale run by Elders Albury last Friday saw heavy steers to $1010 or 221 cents a kilogram and weaner steers sky rocket to 331c/kg.
The sale, backed by the Hereford society and breeders featured 2000 cattle with the average price per head hitting $1000.
Elders Albury livestock manager, Matt Tinkler said the sale was initiated by their livestock team having a desire to provide their clients and regional producers with a marketing alternative to showcase the genetics and breeding developed by the producers throughout southern Australia.
Mutooroo Past Co, Mulyungarie Station, Broken Hill opened the steers section selling a pen of 28 steers weighing 456 kg to $1010 or 221c/kg.
Mulyungarie Station sold 200 Poll Hereford and Hereford yearling and weaner steers on the day averaging $888.
One pen of 22 weaner steers weighing 240kg sold to $796 or 331c/kg.
Station manager Dean Hotchin said prices exceeded his expectations.
Tarabah Livestock Company, Morundah NSW sold 360 Hereford steers topping at $858 with an average of $822.
Denis Linely, Elders Pakenham dominated the Tarabah Livestock Company steers purchasing several pens including the tops.
South Australian vendor Woomera Trust sold 80 Poll Hereford steers Aug/Sep 09 drop and 120 Poll Hereford steers Feb/Mar 10 drop ranging between $800-$1000.
Another South Australian vendor, KGM & GI Skene, Krongart, Penola sold 81 Poll Hereford steers between $860-$960 with an average of $894.
