THE Mortlock brothers, Greg and Malcolm, have been long-time supporters of the Australian Fleece Competition.
The Dunluce woolgrowers have handpicked fleeces to send into the competition, held at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show, Bendigo, since its beginning 15 years ago.
"It's a good way to support charities, but also put your wool up against others," he said.
Competition convenor Athol Frederick said organisers were expecting between 450 to 500 fleece entries this year from across Australia.
"The biggest numbers are from NSW and Victoria, but we get entries from all states," Mr Frederick said.
While Merino clips make up the bulk of the competition, he said Dohne, SAMM, Polwarth, Corriedale and British breeders also sent in their top-fleece for judging.
This year's charity is the Life's Little Treasures Foundation, which support families with premature or sick babies.
"They were really thrilled to be given the opportunity to get the message out to country and rural people," Mr Frederick added.
The competition, which attracts stud and commercial entries, is run by Landmark, the Australian Wool Testing Authority (AWTA) and the Australian Sheep Breeders Association (ASBA).
