MATHOURA-based Burramurra Santa Gertrudis stud has taken out the supreme exhibit at this year's Royal Melbourne Show
Stud principal Mark Bazeley, who made the trip down from NSW this week, said the recognition highlighted the stud's commitment to breed top-quality Santa Gertrudis stock.
The stud also claimed grand champion bull and the grand champion female which went on to take the overall title.
"Everyone wants to win but it's nice to have even more competition because it gives it more significance but to be able to get into a royal show, and win, is incredible," Mr Bazeley said.
"We took this cow to Sydney last year but she didn't go to Adelaide because she was close to calving and the calf was only born on August 4 so it's going incredibly well particularly due to its age.
"The calf is by a new bull I bought out of Queensland last year and the cow herself is out of our bloodline we've been using for a long time."
Santa Gertrudis judge Glenn Trout, Holbrook, NSW said the Burraburra cow had plenty of breeding potential.
"She was a loving wedge-shaped female who had lots of milk under her and she was only a two-year-old with a calf underfoot," he said.
"I also liked her milking ability and the job she was going to do on her calf and just the functional sound foot underneath her."
