*Total clearance of 149 bulls to $20,000, av $7010
BIDDERS from every state in Australia took part in this year’s annual Lawsons Angus sale, at Yea.
Stud principal Harry Lawson said the sale attracted many repeat buyers, who took all 149 bulls, for a top price of $20,00, and average of $7010.
“It's our commercial clients that keep coming back, year after year, that keep us in business,” Mr Lawson said.
“We have a strong and diverse group of clients, purchasing from all states.
“I think what’s unique is that the bulls were in a very tight optimum range, for key economic traits.”
The top-priced bull sold for $20,000, and went to Highland Court Angus, Glen Innes, NSW.
Highland Court stud principal Owen Pedlar said he had bought Lawsons genetics before.
The bull, Lawsons Kingbull M656, was sired by Paringa Judd J5, out of the dam Lawsons NZ09104 K828.
An 18 month-old animal, Kingbull ranked in the top five per cent of the breed for heavy grain index (GRN), eye muscle area (EMA) and 600-day weight of 133 kilograms.
Kingbull recorded Angus BreedPlan estimated breeding values (EBVs) of a 4.7kg birthweight, 55kg 200-day weight, and 100kg 400-day weight.
He had figures of a -0.4 rib, -1.0 rump, and EMA of 8.1 square centimetres and an IMF of 3.2 per cent.
The sale was conducted by DLS Rural.
